A Message from the Board Chairman, Ken Kirkland Best wishes to all JHI members and staff for a happy and healthy 2011!
I assume the JHI Board Chair with great enthusiasm and pride. A fresh new year holds promise and opportunity to advance JHI, its initiatives and the business success of JHI members with tremendous organisational momentum under our wings. JHI’s tradition of high-impact conferences, knowledge exchange, mutual referrals and cross-border engagements is powerfully evolving. The expansion of our marketing and membership initiative is increasing JHI’s stature in our industry on an international scale, fulfilling the Board’s strategic direction of integrating JHI operations into a unified global brand. I commend Immediate Past Chairman, Mark Tenzer, for the dedication and leadership he has given JHI during his tenure. He guided us through our transition into a unified global organisation and strengthened JHI’s capacity to internationally serve its members. We are JHI—you, me and our fellow members across the world. As a member-driven and collaborative organisation, JHI succeeds to the extent that each of us supports the organisation by leveraging the considerable resources and opportunities it offers. I encourage you to reach out to me at any time with ideas, input and suggestions. I look forward to moving our global focus ahead in a spirit of camaraderie and consensus. My very best wishes for a productive and prosperous 2011. Ken Kirkland Best wishes to all JHI members and staff for a happy and healthy 2011! New JHI Association Agreement Ratified by Membership Following review and approval by the Governance Committee, JHI’s lawyers and the Board of Directors, the new Association Agreement was ratified by a vote of the membership at large and will take effect 1 January 2011. The Agreement reflects our vision for a unified, global organisation and provides a sound foundation for JHI’s future growth. Many of the changes in the Agreement facilitate new ways to increase member participation and a more interactive, global accounting community. JHI will be able to provide more information and services for members worldwide, which will assist them in developing more business opportunities. The new Association Agreement will replace all regional bylaws as well as the 2004 Association Agreement. International Conference Leela Kempinski Kovalam Beach
JHI members traveled to one of the most storied tourist destinations in Asia for the recent International Conference and Annual General Meeting which was steeped in Indian traditions, sights and cuisine. Over 80 members and spouses gathered to share business perspectives, network and learn new strategies for optimising their business capabilities. This year’s Conference focused on leadership and self awareness, driven by Peter Ernest, CEO of Values Journey, an internationally recognised motivational speaker and powerful facilitator of change. Dan Harris, founder and president of en-terpret.co, an international information technology consultancy firm, led attendees through a disaster recovery session with Anthony Harris of Critchleys LLP and Andy Silverstein of Dorfman Abrams Music LLC. Dr. Laveesh Bhandari, founding director of Indicus Analytics, shared insights on the current state of the Indian economy and regional economic opportunities. Roy Varghese of Roy Varghese & Associates arranged a wonderful tour and leisure programs that included daily yoga lessons; palace, temple and shopping tours; a visit to the Estuary Island Resort at Poovar; Indian cooking classes and traditional JHI destination dinners. All in all, the International Conference continued to reflect JHI’s commitment to providing member firms with access to leading global knowledge resources and international business opportunities. Membership Committee: Revised Dues Structure Approved, New Members Targeted JHI members voted to approve the Membership Committee’s recommendation that one annual fee now covers all organisational participation, as opposed to separate international and regional dues amounts. The revised dues structure is also based on size by annual gross revenue of a member firm, resulting in more equitable membership fees. Since dues are now turnover based, it is important for all JHI members to report their annual gross revenue to Headquarters, if one has not already done so. Membership dues for 2011 can also now be paid online within the Members’ Only section of the JHI website.
Conference fees will now be known as conference “credits” which will be distributed to member firms to redeem as delegate or guest fees for any international or regional conference. Each conference will have a delegate and guest fee which may have a different value attributed to it depending upon the cost of the specific conference. Conference credits will be distributed in correlation to the amount of dues paid and a firm’s turnover. This new system will give flexibility to members to attend conferences in different regions. Additionally, Headquarters is working together with the Board of Directors and the Membership Committee to develop proactive member recruitment strategies supported by the new JHI membership recruitment brochure. These outreach techniques include targeting prospective members in geographic areas where additional members would benefit JHI’s mission as well as procedures for responding to new member inquiries and leads. The strategies are designed to ultimately achieve the most comprehensive network of professionals globally and help members expand their business capabilities beyond the current countries represented by JHI members. Special Interest Group Committee Member Outreach Questionnaire Introduced The Special Interest Group (SIG) Committee forwards JHI’s mission by providing a professional forum for members to address specialised issues or needs so JHI may direct attention and resources to their resolution. The Committee implements a process to identify, analyse and resolve issues brought to their attention through a responsive, effective and documentable course of action including SIG conferences. The Committee solicits the membership for potential SIG issues on a regular basis. The member questionnaire introduces the inaugural SIG survey requesting input on a possible New Partner SIG for newly admitted partners at member firms, as well as other areas of interest. Members are asked to return the completed questionnaire to Headquarters within 10 business days. The SIGs enable the exchange of information, knowledge and expertise in a variety of technical and practice areas including IT, forensic accounting and litigation support, Spanish language, international auditing standards and taxation. In other SIG news, the annual Managing Partners Summit has changed its name to the Leadership Forum. Its 2011 Conference will continue to dovetail with the Information Technology Conference. |
